For the Birds

When: Fri., Dec. 19 2014
A decade ago, director Judy Irving had a film festival hit with her quirky film The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, a documentary about the birds that call the Bay Area site home. Her follow-up film, Pelican Dreams, stays on the same subject as Irving focuses on Gigi, a brown pelican that perched on the Golden Gate bridge in 2008 and became a YouTube sensation. Irving uses the incident as a springboard to delve into the endangered bird’s history. The film screens at 8:55 tonight at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
