Fu Manchu/Electric Citizen/Mofos

When: Wed., May 14, 8:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $13
Nineties stoner rock group Fu Manchu is still chugging out low-speed stoner jams. You probably remember its 1992 single "Don't Bother Knockin' (If This Van's Rockin)” or a few years later “Missing Link.” Both feature super bass-y ultra-distorted riffs and fiery noodlin’ solos. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” must be the band’s mantra, as the Southern California group’s 11th studio album Gigantoid delivers the tried-and-true combination of face-melters and gut-chuggers. “Anxiety Reducer” lays down the repetitive fuzzy riffs; it’s joined by some squiggly sci-fi induced soloing and Ken Pucci’s gruff punctuated vocals. Released on the band’s own At The Dojo Records, this album is full of the classic Fu Manchu slow burns that fans have come to expect. (Gonzalez)
