Comedy
At the same time Hollywood was filming The Avengers in Cleveland, the city was also being used as the setting of Fun Size, a more modestly budgeted Halloween-themed movie from Nickelodeon. The filmmakers show Greater Cleveland in a flattering light; set designers transformed an abandoned fast food joint on Euclid into Captain Chicken, with a giant pirate rooster effigy, and turned Coventry Road into a bustling thoroughfare called “The Strip.” The movie is a mildly charming ’tween comedy about high school senior Wren (Victoria Justice) forced to babysit her 8-year-old brother. She loses him on a chaotic Halloween night, and misadventures ensue. The screenplay has some nicely wrought satire and unexpected pathos as Wren’s widowed mom (Chelsea Handler) and her kids come to terms with their grief. (Zoslov)
