Directed by Peter Weir, this 1980s Australian new wave classic features Mel Gibson in his prime. The film follows two idealistic sprinters in 1915 Australia who decide to enlist in the British army to fight during the First World War; their enlistment ultimately sends them to the Gallipoli peninsula in what is now Turkey. The movie screens tonight at 6:30 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $9. (Immerman)
