Generationals/Brass Beds

When: Fri., May 3, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $10
The Generationals, an indie two-piece that formed some five years ago, offers up another good collection of jittery pop tunes on its new album, Heza. On the opening tune, “Spinoza,” the band looks back fondly to the British Invasion; the track is so delectable that it could easily find its way into a car commercial. This kind of group over which Pitchfork writers fawn but that’s not reason to dismiss them. The album has some real gems: “Say When” could pass for Vampire Weekend; “You Got Me”’s simplicity gives the song its charm; and “I Never Know” features a fantastic fuzzy guitar riff. Be sure to arrive early for openers, Brass Bed; the band’s new album The Secret Will Keep You has drawn comparisons to Wilco and the album’s heart-wrenching songs certainly sound like Jeff Tweedy could have been penned them.
