Gerritt/Sixes

With Deathroes, Jason Zeh, Bee Mask, and Tusco Terror. Thursday, May 24, at Diamond Shiners, 267 South Portage Path, Akron.

In a tidy world, every musician would reflect the geography and weather of his or her home. Yet sunny Oakland, California, is where dark noise-manglers Sixes and Gerritt hang their hats.

Gerritt Wittmer runs the label Misanthropic Agenda, which sports releases by Boris, John Weise, Merzbow, and Wittmer's own highly focused electronics. Sixes (born Ryan Jencks) has been performing harsh experimental music under various names since the late '80s, most famously as a member of the confrontational percussion outfit CrashWorship. Sixes' tools include guitar, tapes, homemade circuit boxes, and even a good old-fashioned organ.

"We're just in this to waste as many heads as possible," says Jencks of the current tour. But the black-hearted crunch both artists make also gives way to wet gurgles, particle-blasted droplets, and glacial washes. In the end, however, there is plenty of unbearable distortion and face-melting feedback to appease your virility.
