Global Swarming

Young pros solve the world's ills over dim sum.

East meets West over dim sum and booze during tonight's EthniCity social mixer at Bo Loong Chinese Restaurant. The monthly "tabletop travel stop" is the Cleveland Council on World Affairs' pet project to let yuppies solve the world's woes by brainstorming ideas in Northeast Ohio's ethnic eateries. "It's an opportunity for internationally minded individuals to gather for an evening of food and conversation," says Rebecca Kopp, chairwoman of the agency's Young Professionals group. "Our members now know that the first Wednesday of every month is reserved for trying out these restaurants and meeting new friends." Tonight's menu includes kung pao chicken, moo goo gai pan, chicken feet, and quail eggs. The restaurant's Chinese decor should also help spark a steady stream of talk on current affairs, politics, and international relations. The group suspects that a freestyle format for cultural exchange will intrigue younger-than-40 professionals. "It's a casual event primarily for those who are young and young-at-heart," says Kopp. "Our hope is that young Clevelanders will be interested in learning more about China and talking about the delicious ethnic food in Cleveland." EthniCity starts at 6:30 tonight at Bo Loong Restaurant, 3922 St. Clair Avenue. Admission is free. Call 216-781-3720 or visit www.ccwa.org.
