Golden Years

Urinetown tinkles on an uptight community.

Don't let Urinetown's title piss you off, says director Jen Cody. "People think it's going to be this lewd, foul production," she says. "It's really a story about two kids falling in love." The Tony-winning musical (opening tonight at the Carousel) centers on star-crossed lovers caught in a fight against corporate greed. It's all set in a town where citizens have to pay to pee. "It's a cautionary tale, bringing to life problems in a very comic and hopeful way," says artistic director Sean Cercone. "It's a great parable for our times — especially after Hurricane Katrina and all these scandals about businesses siphoning billions of dollars away."
Tuesdays-Thursdays, 8 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8:30 p.m.; Sundays, 5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 6. Continues through Nov. 4
