Green Scene

The Home & Garden Show oads up on flowers, shurbbery, and castles.

The I-X Center goes green for the next week as the Home & Garden Show fills more than 20 acres with indoor gardens, dream homes, and more. Demonstrations show how to landscape your lawn and build your own backyard patio, while more than 900 vendors and exhibitors show off everything from the latest garden gadgets to home-improvement designs.

The sixth-annual show also offers a pair of green themes and displays: The Beauty of Ireland includes a two-story Irish castle, complete with working drawbridge; the Green Building Movement offers tips on building an environmentally conscious abode. Plus, experts fill you in on raising green children and how to clean stuff around the house with natural products.

The I-X Center's even doing its part: “Our ultimate goal is to recycle 90 percent of the products,” says spokesman Chris Fassnacht. Trees, bushes, and decorative rocks -- which would typically “go straight into the dumpster” -- will be planted throughout the area.
Sundays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Mondays-Thursdays, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; Fri., Feb. 9, 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 10, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Starts: Feb. 4. Continues through Feb. 11
