Action/Adventure, Suspense/Thriller
We first meet teenager Hanna, played by Saoirse Ronan, stalking a deer. Her father (Eric Bana) sneaks up, gets the drop on her and they fight violently, only barely pulling their punches. This is the norm for them: Secluded from mankind by design, Hanna has lived her entire life in her ex-CIA father’s rigorous training program. She’s fluent in many languages, and has a Jason Bourne-like knowledge of martial arts. She’s eager to leave home and take on her life’s mission: to get revenge for the murder of her mother, apparently at the hands of a scheming research director (Cate Blanchett). Ronan is great, and Hanna’s straight-laced, inventively visual style is always interesting, even if much of it is in service of a flimsy plot and flightless momentum.
