Sasa

13120 Shaker Square., Cleveland

A sushi/tapas restaurant may not be expected to have some of the best fries in town, but indeed this Shaker Square spot has some of the most popular ones in town. These fried potatoes come with a wonton wrapper and seaweed on top and served with a salty katsu sauce that tastes like a mix of barbecue sauce, soy sauce and ketchup.

Melt

Multiple Locations

Known for their grilled cheese sandwiches as big as your head, the fries shouldn’t be forgotten. While the regular fries are great on their own, if you want to take it to the next level check out the Hangover Fries — fresh hand-cut fries served with seared pork belly, mozzarella cheese curd, rich gravy, fried sunny up egg and scallions.

Bar Cento

1948 W. 25th St., Cleveland

Bar Cento, the restaurant attached to Sam McNulty’s Bier Markt, has been named best french fries in Scene's Best Of poll in the past and gets a bonus for being available late at night. This Ohio City spot never shorts you on an order of garlic-coated, crisp, curry-scented Belgian-style pomme frites.

Parallax

2179 W. 11th St., Cleveland

If you can find a bigger pile of fries then at Zack Bruell’s Parallax in Tremont, let us know, because we sure haven’t seen a bigger order. These pomme frites are basically an upgraded version of Potato Stix and they’re delectable.

Heck’s Cafe

Multiple Locations

Heading into its fourth decade, this charming café, with locations in Ohio City and Avon remains a reliable, if non-trendy, refuge for lunch, dinner, or Sunday brunch. While juicy, gourmet burgers are their specialty, their fries aren’t far behind. You can get them with salt and pepper with a malt vinegar aioli, rosemary and garlic with a garlic aioli or moroccan seasoning with a saffron aioli.

This beefy, barn-style Valley View restaurant can accommodate 450 people. Fortunately, chef and owner Demetrios Atheneos knows how to win over diners with his impressive gastropub fare including incredible french fries.

Tremont Taphouse

2572 Scranton Rd., Cleveland

This Tremont gastropub’s thick cut fries are so good, they even go on sandwiches. But when served on their own, the fries come with a jalapeño aioli. Also look for poutine, served with duck gravy, cheddar cheese curds and thyme.

Deagan’s

14810 Detroit Ave., Lakewood

Head out to Lakewood for the best truffle french fries in town. The House Fries at Deagan’s also come sprinkled with parmesan, pepper, sea salt, chopped scallions and a side of spicy mayo and they’re as mouthwatering as they sound.

Lola

2058 East Fourth St., Cleveland

The Lola Fries at Michael Symon’s East Fourth joint are so good that they’re served at his B Spot Burger restaurants as well. Potatoes are cut into shoestrings fries, fried twice in fat and lard and are topped with sea salt and rosemary.

Rocky River Brewing Company

21290 Center Ridge Rd., Cleveland

We’re a fan of any french fries that are served in a bucket, so these definitely make our list. They come standard with a side of ranch, so that’s a plus, and of course come beer-battered, because it is, after all, still a brewery.
