Holy Macao!

When: Thu., Dec. 12 2013
Referred to as "the Las Vegas of the East," Macao, a former Portuguese colony now controlled by China, is the setting for The Last Time I Saw You in Macao, the latest film from Joao Pedro Rodrigues and Joao Rui Guerra da Mata (the duo behind To Die Like a Man). The plot centers on a man looking to find a friend of his in what he refers to as "the friendliest and cruelest of cities." The filmmakers artfully mix genres — the movie blends film noir, documentary and personal travelogue. It makes its Cleveland debut tonight at 8:30 and tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
