New to DVD this week

X-Men: First Class (Twentieth Century Fox)

Matthew Vaughn reboots the superhero squad in this terrific prequel, which focuses on the people behind the mutants. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender play pals Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr before they become arch enemies Professor X and Magneto. As they assemble the X-Men (including Lenny Kravitz's daughter and Winter's Bone's Jennifer Lawrence), their arrogance, hatred, and big brains pull toward doing the right and wrong things. There's plenty of behind-the-scenes features here, but it's the extended and deleted scenes that add even more depth to one of the year's best movies.

Community: The Complete Second Season (Sony)

One of TV's funniest shows got even better during its second season. All 24 episodes are gathered on this set, and each one comes with hilarious commentary by the cast and crew. Check out the bonus material, like the outtakes and deleted scenes, to see how often the stars crack each other up.

Scarface (Universal)

It took a bunch of rappers to turn Brian De Palma's maligned 1983 mob movie into a modern classic. It's even more over the top on this dazzling Blu-ray debut. Best extra: the 1932 Scarface. Second-best extra: the heavily edited TV version, which takes out all the fun stuff. Say goodbye to Pacino's little friend.

Sigmund and the Sea Monsters: Volume 1 (Vivendi)

Sid and Marty Krofft, the psychedelic puppet masters behind H.R. Pufnstuf, created this mid-'70s TV series about a friendly green sea monster, who looks like a cross between SpongeBob and a salad bar. This three-disc set includes all 17 episodes from the first season. Pass the bong!
