New to DVD this week

Pulp Fiction

One of the greatest movies ever made — which changed cinema the same way Nirvana's Nevermind revolutionized music just a couple of years before — has been on fans' most-wanted lists ever since HD upped the ante on home video. Not that you need Blu-ray to appreciate Samuel L. Jackson's Jheri curl or John Travolta's sexy dance with Uma Thurman or Christopher Walken's watch story or even "The Gimp." But it sure makes Quentin Tarantino's 1994 masterpiece all that much more fun to watch. Best extras are deleted scenes and new interviews about the movie's influence.Fast Five (Universal)

Paul Walker and Vin Diesel return for the fifth Fast and the Furious movie, which is better than every single movie that preceded it in the series. The story once again includes drugs, cops, and really fast cars. But there are no brakes on the action this time.

The Lion King (Walt Disney)

Old-school animation's last true classic (not counting a couple of Miyazaki gems) finally makes its Blu-ray debut, loaded with extras like deleted and extended scenes. It's one of Disney's all-time greats, with family, friends, and the circle of life pulling it all together.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure (Warner)

It's Tim Burton's first feature, co-written by Phil Hartman, and one of the 1980s' most quotable comedies. The Blu-ray debut includes some deleted scenes and commentary by Burton and Pee-wee, er, Paul Reubens. We love this movie so much we're going to marry it!
