New to DVD this week

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (Disney)

Having crammed in everything under the sea for the first three movies of this increasingly waterlogged series, Captain Jack and crew have little left to choose from for their fourth outing. Mermaids? Sure. Penélope Cruz? OK. Zombies? Why not? The Fountain of Youth is at the center of the adventure, but it's merely a docking spot for Johnny Depp to mug shamelessly in guyliner and a puffy shirt. Extras include the usual deleted scenes, documentaries, and commentary. A short bonus film made up entirely of Legos packs more joy and imagination than the entire main feature.

A Better Life (Summit)

This quiet drama about an immigrant single dad trying to steer his teenage son away from street gangs doesn't even bother to hide its melodramatic moments. And there are plenty of them. But Demian Bichir is good in the lead, a portrait of heartbreaking authenticity amid the occasional sap.

Page One: Inside The New York Times (Magnolia)

It's fitting that this documentary about the world's most reputable paper goes deep into the newsroom to get its story. News junkies and media watchers will get the most from it, but there's enough drama going on behind the scenes to engage even the most technologically advanced snob.

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory: 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition (Warner)

The only thing better than finding a golden ticket is this lavish limited-edition and numbered three-disc Blu-ray/DVD box. Packed with extras (mostly interviews and behind-the-scenes features), the set throws a sugar rush of a party for the timeless favorite. But beware: The Oompa-Loompas look even creepier in HD.
