Homostupids

Friday, June 6, at Tower 2012.

Cleveland punks the Homostupids are shrouded in mystery. There's talk, which may or may not be true, of wild, drunken shows. Their past — as with all real punks — is littered with seven-inch records that have become sought-after collectors' items. Their debut album, The Intern, runs a whopping 17 minutes, and songs like "Tip of the Worm" sound like the sort of cutthroat hardcore that teenage D.C. punks used to make. Most tunes clock in at less than two minutes; if they were any longer, you'd want the guys to grow the fuck up. The Homostupids are loud, indecipherable, and totally abrasive — the kind of dudes who'll smash up your backyard barbecue. Their entire catalog is a blur of distortion and wails — a simultaneous throwback and tribute to Cleveland's storied punk past.
