Horse Play in the Valley

When: July 6-21, 8 a.m. 2012
Phone: 330-903-9915
Horses and their riders will be center stage today through July 21 at the annual Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic. As always, the showcase for local equine talent is being held at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field in Moreland Hills. Even if you aren’t a rider, there’s plenty to see. “A lot of people come just to watch. It’s a very pretty setting, and there’s a casual atmosphere,” says Karen Schneider, the show’s co-chairman. While the focus is squarely on hunters and jumpers, events range from the Riders with Disabilities show to canine agility contests. But the highlight is the Cleveland Grand Prix — the very first jumping grand prix in North American — which debuted at the polo field in 1965. The rain-or-shine events begin daily at 8 a.m. Admission is free today and on other select days throughout the show. Otherwise, general admission ranges from $3 to $10, while select box seats will set you back considerably more. Find details on the website.
