Into It. Over It./Kevin Devine/Laura Stevenson

When Evan Thomas Weiss turned 23, he set out on a journey to write a new song each week of that year. After that, he flipped six EPs based on his songwriting from 12 different cities. From there, though, Weiss has become an indie rock magnet. His 2013 album, Intersections, features all the best stuff that he learned over the previous six years. Check out the rhythms in “Spinning Thread,” a stop-start labyrinth of classically emo imagery. “The Shaking of Leaves,” meanwhile, boasts the versatile finger work Weiss has come to embrace as a guitarist on the road. When the fuzzy bass and drums kick in, it becomes pretty clear that this guy’s got a knack for instrumentation, complementing the lyrical chops he honed years prior. (Sandy)
