House of Blues celebrates St. Patrick’s Day a couple of weeks early tonight, when Dublin hell-raisers Flogging Molly bring their Green 17 Tour to town. Like the Pogues before them, the Irish punks in Molly combine traditional instruments (fiddles, tin whistles, and accordions) with slurred sing-alongs. On its latest DVD and CD, Whiskey on a Sunday, the seven-piece band tears through a ferocious, partially acoustic live set that was recorded across the globe over the past two years. Tunes like “Drunken Lullabies,” “Tomorrow Comes a Day Too Soon,” and “Black Friday Rule” practically beg listeners to raise glasses in celebration. Even Molly’s slower sentimental songs conjure images of splintered pub floors stained by too many years of spilled beer. It’s great stuff, which jumps out on record. Imagine what it does live. Here’s your chance to down a few whiskeys on a Sunday with a band well worth tomorrow’s hangover.
