Jackie Brown Staff Pick

When: Sat., Feb. 6 2016
Writer-director Quentin Tarantino gave blaxploitation star Pam Grier the role of a lifetime when he enlisted her to star in Jackie Brown, his 1997 adaptation of Elmore Leonard's 1992 novel Rum Punch. The film's plot centers on Jackie (Grier), a flight attendant who makes some extra money by smuggling drugs. When she gets busted, Ordell (Samuel L. Jackson), the black market gun runner for whom she works, enlists the help of a savvy bondsman (Robert Forster) to get her out of jail. In the wake of being set free, she has to find a way to avoid Ordell, who suspects she squealed when she was in prison. A cult classic, the movie screens at 9:30 p.m. and midnight tonight and at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Cedar Lee Theatre. Tickets are $6. (Niesel)
