Former local musician and writer Chris Rager is part of this L.A.-based rock ensemble led by Gabriel Hart (Starvations/Fortunes Flesh). The band bills itself as psych-rock and that’s pretty accurate. Last year’s Meltdown — A Declaration of Unpopular Emotion features a mix of musical styles. With its old school organ riff and cooing vocals, “You Are Never Going to Find Me” sounds like something by a ’60s girl group. And the baritone vocals in songs such as “Father’s Eye” recall Goth rocker Nick Cave, albeit if he were a retro rocker. The intricate arrangements often include strings (the band cites Phil Spector as an influence) so it’ll be interesting to see how the group pulls off the live show. (Niesel)
