Jams on Jellies

Jellyfish and other creatures of the sea come up for air in new zoo exhibit.

Blue blubbers cozy up to Pacific sea nettles in the Akron Zoo's tribute to the brainless, headless, and heartless jellyfish in Jellies: Rhythm in the Blue, which opens this week for a three-year run. In the zoo's Komodo Kingdom, the collection also includes a "touch tank," in which you can dip your hand in the water to reach out to starfish, sea urchins, and crabs. But the stars of the show will be the jellies, which spend their entire lives waiting to mate. They'd better do it fast: The average jellyfish lives only about three months, tops. The exhibit is on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the Akron Zoo, 500 Edgewood Avenue in Akron. Admission is $5.50 to $9. Call 330-375-2550 or visit
Starts: June 10. Daily, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2008
