Jewish Archives White Glove Event

When: Wed., June 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m. 2012
Phone: 216-721-5722
Price: $25
The contributions of Jewish women’s organizations to Northeast Ohio will be honored and celebrated at the second annual Touching Jewish History event, which reveals the treasures of the Western Reserve Historical Society Cleveland Jewish Archives for guests to get up close and personal with their region’s and, in many cases, their own ancestral history. Touching Jewish History: Contributions of Jewish Women’s Organizations to our Community is scheduled for 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm on Wednesday, June 27, at the WRHS History Center in University Circle. Cost is $25 per person and includes a wine & hors d’oeuvres reception. Space is limited. The WRHS Cleveland Jewish Archives house a vast archival and artifact collection of the history of the Northeast Ohio Jewish community and was endowed, in 2011, with a $2 million fund at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland. Touching Jewish History is a “white glove” event offering guests the rare opportunity to personally experience items from the rich collections. Guests are provided with white gloves so they may actually touch and feel the artifacts and archives – a seldom-offered treat. Event guests will be able to browse through scrapbooks, view photographs, read bulletins and newsletters, and touch banners, uniforms, pins, medals, mirrors, and other artifacts connected to the history of Jewish women’s organizations, which are among the most significant collections within the Cleveland Jewish Archives, according to Dr. Sean Martin, Associate Curator of the WRHS Jewish Archives.
