Former Oroboros frontman Jim Miller was inspired by jam bands like the Grateful Dead, and his JiMiller Band is known for its occasional all-Dead sets and original songs that sound like they belong in a Dead set. In Trance It features a studio disc and live disc, both crammed with eight-minute trips through the daisies that continue the string of Grateful parallelisms. The studio record captures raw performances, rough harmonies, and raindrops of wah-wah guitar. On both, Miller and crew sing about butterflies, waterfalls, and long journeys in groovy sunlight. You don't have to be a hippie to agree: It sure as hell beats Phish.
