John Walsh, the beloved host of America’s Most Wanted, has been a victim’s rights advocate ever since, the story goes, his only child was abducted from a mall near Walsh’s home in Florida. Two weeks later, his son was found dead. It took 27 years to identify the murderer. Since its debut in the late ’80s, Walsh’s TV program, the longest-running show on Fox, has helped locate over 50 missing children more than 1,050 fugitive criminals. In Walsh’s inspirational lecture at the University of Akron’s EJ Thomas Hall, “Living Life With a Mission,” the celebrity speaker will discuss how he parlayed his own tragedy into a lifelong crusade for justice and share his advice for those who want to make a similar difference in their own communities.
