Jonathan Richman/Jeffrey Benko

When: Sun., June 2, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $12 ADV, $15 DOS
Everyone knows Jonathan Richman for the Modern Lover’s hit “Roadrunner,” which played during one of the montage scenes in School of Rock. The Modern Lovers were a very influential proto-punk band of the ’70s and, like a lot of bands of the time, took influence from The Velvet Underground. However, since the band's breakup, Richman hasn’t produced anything notable in his solo career. His style moves between Latin and folk but he still sounds youthful. Songs such as “If You Want To Leave Our Party Just Go” off his 2010 release O Moon, Queen Of Night On Earth sound as if they were recorded during a spiritual gathering in an adobe house in Mexico. You want to remember Richman for the punk legend he was but his style has changed so drastically for the worst that it’s hard to know
