Kent Beatlefest

The sixth annual installment of BeatleFest is set to take place in Kent tonight. More than 20 bands will perform at 18 venues, marking the anniversary of the Beatles appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 7, 1964. Tribute bands Liverpool Lads and Abbey Road will perform, and Cleveland-based OPUS 216 will offer acoustic-classical takes on Beatles tunes. Another act on the schedule, Across the Universe, specializes in the music of John Lennon, from his pre-Beatle days to his last studio album; and the Colin Dussault Blues Project will become the Colin Dussault Beatles Project just for one night. The female duo Babies in Black will play early Beatles tunes on standup bass and guitar. Admission is free; consult the website for a complete schedule. (Niesel)
