Khan Do

When: Wed., March 19 2014
Asif Ali Khan brings his mesmerizing Sufi music to the Cleveland Museum of Art tonight. He stays true to the traditional roots of devotional qawwali music, but also brings his own style in to the mix. You don’t need to be of the Sufi faith in order to appreciate all of the beautiful musical elements as they come together in ecstatic harmony. Call and response chorus, drums and beautiful harmonium (a type of organ) begin slowly and build up into an energetically paced euphoria designed to induce a hypnotic state within its audience. Khan has performed all over the world, including at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. This concert is part of CMA’s larger, ongoing Asian Performances Series. Everything begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Gartner Auditorium, and tickets start at $29. (Trenholme)
