'La brasa' is Spanish for 'glowing coal,' and the name refers to the cooking method of choice at this spare Central American eatery. Split chickens are grilled indoors over a specially-designed charcoal pit that renders them caramel-skinned, juicy and delicious. Other meals include carne guizada, a homey beef and potato stew, and grilled steak. Meals cost just $8-10 and include rice and beans. Don't pass up the pupusas, tacos and empanadas.
