Labor Day Parade and Picnic

When: Mon., Sept. 3 2012
Phone: 216-881-7200
Price: free admission
annual Labor Day Parade and Picnic in Luke Easter Park decades ago, and his successors Stephanie Tubbs Jones and Marcia Fudge continued the tradition. This year's parade kicks off at 10 a.m. at Kinsman Road and East 149th Street, and travels to the park where the family-friendly festivities continue until 5 p.m. It's a monster parade, with drill teams, marching bands, floats, city vehicles, senior-center buses, enthusiastic dancers from black fraternities and sororities, elected officials, and candidates galore vying to see who can assemble the largest group of marchers to sport their campaign T-shirt. This being a big election year, there’ll be more candidates than usual, and you’ll have to be fast on your feet to avoid having your hand shaken by someone running for municipal judge. Once you get to the park, though, you’ll find music, food, vendors, and information booths from groups ranging from health care providers to the Board of Elections, who will register you to vote on the spot. The park entrance is in the vicinity of East 116th and Kinsman Rd.
