Langhorne Slim

Thursday, June 19, at the Grog Shop, Cleveland Heights.

Langhorne Slim takes his stage name from his Pennsylvania birthplace (population less than 2,000). His raw, rough-around-the-edges brand of folk music fits that small-town setting, blending vibrant guitar-picking with gravelly vocals and occasionally slowing it all down to sing a simple but heartfelt love song. Slim got his start in N.Y.C. clubs playing open-mic nights. It prepped him for his lively shows, where he mixes a dash of punky spunk with the folkier stuff. Slim recently released a self-titled CD, which includes songs like the jumpy "Restless" and the drum-happy "Tipping Point," both of which should sound great onstage.
