Let's Do Launch

Chill with a bunch of architects at Lakewood club's biweekly flick fest.

You don't have to brush up on the latest urban-planning lingo to hang with the dudes of Launch at tonight's 1/3 Movie Night in Lakewood. But to help bring out the socio-political animals in the group of architects and downtown designers, sit back and watch a screening of Federico Fellini's Amarcord, about growing up in small-town Italy during 1930s fascism. The flick is the next in a string of movies that the club meets to watch on the first and third Thursdays of every month. In the past, it's shown design-themed films like Play Time, Manufactured Landscapes, and Me and You and Everyone We Know. "Sometimes, there are artsy movies or documentaries that really tie in directly to architecture," says Ted Alexander, who's a student at Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative. "Other times, we're smartasses and show Zoolander." The screen lights up at 7:30 tonight at Bela Dubby, 13321 Madison Avenue in Lakewood. Admission is free.
