Today marks the start of the Ohio Chautauqua: a five-day fest celebrating Ohio history and life on the western frontier. Hosted this year by the Geauga County Historical Society and organized by the Ohio Humanities Council, the family-friendly doings combine music, entertainment, and education — all beneath the signature red-and-white-striped tent set up on the grounds of Burton’s Century Village. The highlight is the series of talks by actors playing the roles of frontier figures. That includes tonight’s 7 p.m. chat with Iroquois chief John Logan, and a July 7 visit from Johnny Appleseed. A 6 p.m. concert proceeds all talks. There’s a full lineup of free daytime workshops for adults and children happening at various Geauga County venues too. And don’t forget the July 4 fireworks! Check out the website for details.
