LKWD Music Fest with Talib Kweli/Phony Ppl/To Be Continued Brass Band/Muamin Collective

When: Sat., Aug. 24, 3 p.m. 2013
Price: $20 ADV, $25 DOS
In only its second year, the LKWD Music Fest is putting up some strong signals of musical consciousness. The people behind the booking know exactly how to reel in a dynamic bill, making this sophomore installment a must-do event this weekend. There will be three stages (and plenty of spots for buskers to post up for the day), as well as all sorts of bitchin’ vendors and unrelentingly delicious food. Headliner Talib Kweli is a huge draw, and it’s a sure bet that the late-night fun will be top-notch. As a notable aside, Cleveland hip-hop performer Ezzy will share the stage with Kweli, rounding out a journey of inspiration for the 17-year-old local. He won a nationwide video contest sponsored by none other than Kweli himself. That’ll be a really terrific point in the night. Beyond that narrative, though, the lineup includes acts as varied as Phony Ppl, Jamaican Queens, Wesley Brite and the Hi-Lites, Muamin Collective and more. As a philanthropic bonus, all outdoor beer sale profits during the festival will benefit the Poultry Project, a nonprofit that helps AIDS-affected youth in Uganda start smallholder poultry businesses. The fun starts at 3 p.m. and rolls onward all day. (Sandy)
