Local Band in Focus

Leah Lou & the Two Left Shoes

Meet the Band: Leah Lou (vocals, guitar) and Daniel Lee (bass)

Dynamic Duo: Lou started off solo before adding and subtracting band members until it was just her and Lee. "We had to think fast because we had a show coming up," she recalls. "A garbage can was stolen, tap shoes were purchased, and our two left shoes became the new drummer."

They're Back: It's been almost 12 months since Leah Lou & the Two Left Shoes released the single "Yeah, You," which followed the EP This Music Belongs to You. They recently broke the silence with a new EP.

Unhappy Birthday: The duo was hired to play a birthday party once, but the show quickly turned disastrous. After Lee broke a string while tuning up, Lou started to play solo. "About 12 seconds into the second song, my string breaks," she says. Making matters worse, Lou and Lee had to duct tape the mic to a fake plastic tree because they forgot to bring a mic stand.

Why You Should Hear Them: "Clean Apartment" and "Stop and Go" boast sophisticated production for an indie-pop duo. And Lou's wistful vocals make for quite a juxtaposition with her frank lyrics in songs like "Drunk Stupid and Used" and "Rain They Say."

Where You Can Hear Them:

Where You Can See Them: June 28 at the Beachland.
