Local Singer Ronnie Chase Shows off Vocal Range on Debut

Album Review

Ronnie Chase

On Thirteen’s up-tempo opening tune “Go to Hell,” singer-guitarist Ronnie Chase delivers an accessible pop hook — you can imagine hearing the song on the radio next to the latest track from, say, Maroon 5. The same goes for the snappy “She Alright,” an infectious pop number that sounds like something by Bruno Mars. Produced by Joe Vulpis and mastered by Tim Coyne, the album emphasizes Chase’s distinctive voice. He shows he can hit the real high notes on “Rogue Wave” and displays off some real swagger on the ricocheting, synthesizer-driven “Can’t Take That Away.” He successfully raps his way through “Take it to the Floor” and sounds particularly soulful on the simmering “Mi Cassa Torino.” And then he brings it all down a notch on the ballad “You Take Me There.” A promising debut.
