Lord Huron/James Apollo

When: Fri., July 11, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $18 ADV, $20 DOS
SStill touring mightily on the shoulders of 2012’s Lonesome Dreams, Lord Huron presents a fairly deep dive into the well trodden Americana territory that marks our current decade. The dreamy album reels in wide-open anthems like “Ends of the Earth” alongside tighter pop adventures (“Lonesome Dreams,” “The Man Who Lives Forever”). At first, Lord Huron sounds somewhat like so many other bands these days, but a closer listen reveals much more. They’re not to be missed. Frontman Ben Schneider even created a whole alternate reality to accompany his band; George Ranger Johnson, a prolific author of Westerns all titled the same as Lord Huron songs, is merely another outlet for Schneider’s imagination. The singer and guitarist actually gets into character as Johnson for the band’s numerous music videos and song trailers, making the full Lord Huron experience a bit more immersive than what other bands are proffering.
