Luther Wright & the Wrongs
  • Luther Wright & the Wrongs
Canadian bluegrass wranglers Luther Wright & the Wrongs were leading a perfectly normal band existence -- first as a side project born from Sarah Harmer's backing outfit Weeping Tiles, then as a full-fledged entity. A pair of homegrown albums and several successful tours were proof that Wright and his Wrongs were making slow, steady headway.

And then it happened. Three years ago, while cooped up in the band's van, traveling across Canada, Wright was playing his banjo along to whatever came on the radio. Suddenly, Wright found himself meting out the familiar strains of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall," and with the eerie sensation that the arrangement was clicking, a concept was born.

After seven months of hammering and pounding -- and getting Roger Waters's blessing along the way -- Wright has dropped the bluegrass renovation Rebuild the Wall, a complete and faithful rendering of Pink Floyd's angst-rock classic. For those who would scoff, be forewarned that Rebuild the Wall works on nearly every level as the original and resonates not as a goofy novelty, but as a glorious (albeit country) homage to The Wall's music and intent. We don't need no education? Oh yes we do.
