Jazz bassist Marcus Miller has played with everyone from Miles Davis to Luther Vandross to Billy Idol during his long career (he was also part of the Saturday Night Live band in the late ’70s). He's been putting out solo albums for 30 years — the latest is the just-released Renaissance, which includes jazzy (and note-poppin') covers of War’s “Slippin' Into Darkness,” the Jackson 5’s “I'll Be There,” and Janelle Monáe's “Tightrope” with Dr. John on vocals. Miller takes it to another place in concert. (Gallucci)
