May Day

When: Wed., Sept. 17 2014
If you happen to find yourself within spitting distance of Akron this evening, and you’re into poetry, and you missed last week’s incredible reading at the Old Angle Boxing Gym featuring Anisfield-Wolf winner Adrian Matejka, head over to U. of A’.s student union to hear Detroit poet Jamaal May read some verses. May won the 2013 Indiana Review poetry award, and his poems have been featured in prestigious journals around the county. He taught poetry to youth in Detroit Public Schools and started the Organic Weapon Arts Chapbook Press. He’ll be reading at 7 p.m. as part of the NEOMFA Visiting Writers’ Series, a distinguished series which features local lit celeb Dan Chaon later this month, MacArthur Grant Winner Karen Russell in November, and short-story superstar George Saunders in the spring, all at Cleveland State. Tonight’s reading (and the other NEOMFA events) is free and open to the public. (Allard)
