Medicine Ball

Cleveland Heights artist has fun — at your expense — with hospital paraphernalia.

Onlookers will feel like lab rats in a maze at today's opening of Lauren Kalman's A Pretty Little Trick. As they weave through the bizarre multimedia installation, they'll see artfully arranged medical equipment, toppled vials of medicine, and a flick of a chick stripping down to practically nothing to expose an imperfect body. At the end of the labyrinth, a set of mortuary tables hides in the shadows to scare the bejesus out of everyone. "Skin is revealed, fluids are spilled, and gender is blurred," says Kalman. "I want them to leave with both a feeling of unease and a sense of absurdity and play." The exhibit is on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays, through Saturday, February 16, at the Sculpture Center, 1834 East 123rd Street. Admission is free; Call 216-229-6527 or visit www.sculpturecenter.org.
Wednesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-4 p.m. Starts: Jan. 18. Continues through Feb. 16, 2008
