Milo Greene/Kopecky Family Band

When: Fri., March 15, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $13 ADV, $15 DOS
LA-based folk-pop crew Milo Greene has been making quite the splash in indie circles across the country since the release of its self-titled debut last summer. The band’s warm tones and soothing lyrical work are of great comfort throughout the album. Opener “What’s the Matter” sets the mood perfectly, letting listeners glide into a collection of songs filled with feeling and emotion. In “1957,” drummer Curtis Marrero lays down a jaunty, trains-a-comin’ rhythm as the rest of the band shares the mic to tell a reflective story. A vocal breakdown toward the end of the song showcases the band’s talents for layering music, lyrics and atmosphere — all in a sort of cinematic wonderland. Throughout the album, short interludes present interesting structural elements. (The segue from “Wooden Antlers” into “Take a Step” works especially well.) (Eric Sandy)
