Luminaries of the 1990s jam scene, moe. has always brought a certain heat and a definite sense of humor to the stage. With a discography boasting nearly a dozen studio albums and even more live collections (the Warts and All canon being indispensable), there’s a deep pool of music into which the uninitiated can dive. The band began recording the followup to 2012’s What Happened to the LA LAs back in October. Singer and guitarist Al Schnier recently told Relix that they ended up working with producer and longtime friend Dave Aron in a New England studio to produce “a total rock album that is all moe.” That’s always good to hear, as the band’s legacy is grounded in its very characteristic moe.ness. It’s hard to described beyond that. “Many of the songs that started out as acoustic songs ended up becoming epic rock songs, and a lot of our demos are like that,” Schnier recently told Relix, connecting the present material to the band’s roots.
