As much as we like the moniker of Brooklyn's Say Hi to Your Mom, we like its music even more. The group, a solo project for singer-songwriter Eric Elbogen, usually turns into a quartet onstage. All the better to reach the heights found on its third CD, Ferocious Mopes, which is filled with semi-complex indie rock knotted with twisty time signatures, mumbled verses, and wordy titles ("Recurring Motifs in Historical Flirtings," "As Smart as Geek Is Chic Right Now"). It's a bit self-conscious, but that goes with the territory; it also skirts the edge of electronic pop, which doesn't.
