Music from Mali

When: Wed., July 22 2015
Mali's Tamikrest plays a style of world music that's akin to desert blues and Western rock. Their third album, Chatma, features the djembes, a goblet shaped hand drum, and calabashes. Filled with vocal chants, the album is an eclectic affair that features desert dub (“Assikal”) and a bit of bhangra ("Itous"). The group performs at 7:30 p.m. as part of Ohio City Stages, a weekly event put on by the Cleveland Museum of Art. The concert takes place on an outdoor stage set up outside of the Transformer Station. Vendors will sell food and beer. Admission is free. (Niesel)
