Bands rock out to feed poor.

Local alt-rockers Cactus 12 play Wilbert's inaugural Rock Against Hunger. Singer-songwriter Will Bowen and the Nicholas Megalis drum-and-piano duo lend their talents to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank. Plus, Indie Guitars raffles off one of its axes. "We have a fondness for the poor," says Cactus 12 bassist Phil Palumbo. "We really love Cleveland, and this will help keep the food and money local."

When it's not aiding the destitute, the quartet regularly gigs around town, performing songs from its debut CD, Stay. Not bad for a former punk band that was conceived six years ago at Bay Presbyterian Church, where Palumbo met guitarist Sam Getz in Bible class. "The punk scene was growing then around Cleveland, and we were into it," says Palumbo. "But after awhile, we thought, this is silly. So we changed our style and got serious."
