NIght Bike Ride on the Towpath Trail

When: Sat., June 2 2012
Phone: 330-657-2209
Price: $20/$25
Like a cloud of tipsy lightning bugs, bike riders will swarm down the Towpath Trail tonight on a 12-mile trek through Valley View. Some will do it for adventure. Some will do it for fitness. And some will do it to raise money for Cleveland’s Ronald McDonald House. Luckily, none of the options are mutually exclusive. Sponsor Century Cycles has been hosting a series of night rides on the Towpath Trail for each of the past 18 summers. This is the third year that one of them benefits the House; it’s also the only night ride that takes place in Cuyahoga County. It’s a family friendly affair: a ride, not a race. Still, with the al fresco wildlife in their finest fettle, it’s sure to be an adventure. The trek begins at 8 p.m. at Thornburg Station (8111 Rockside Rd., Valley View), and then proceeds six miles south to the Station Road Bridge. Snacks and beverages await at the turnaround point, and then it’s back to Thornburg Station. Riders need a helmet, a bike, and a headlight; and an adult must accompany children under 16. Riders who check in at 7 can get a complimentary pre-ride safety inspection. Make your online reservations by May 31 and the cost is $20; or register at the ride for $25. Tips, videos, and a complete schedule of future night rides are on the website.
