Now Up for Auction: The Anthony J. Celebrezze Cleveland Fire Boat, a Piece of Local History

Now's your time if you're looking to own a piece of Cleveland history and want to have the most unique vessel on Lake Erie next summer. The 1961 PAASCH Fire Boat is up for auction online here. Named the Anthony J. Celebrezze Cleveland Fire Boat after Cleveland's 49th mayor, the boat had been patrolling the Cuyahoga River from 1961 until it was decommissioned this past June. (It can be seen in pictures from the Cuyahoga River fire in 1969.) The auction currently is at $36,500 after 10 bids, and the reserve has been met.

A new fireboat named the Garrett Morgan, after the Cleveland native and traffic light inventor, was put into service to replace the Celebrezze boat.
