Ohio City Singers

About 10 years ago, singer-songwriter Chris Allen’s father asked him to write him a Cleveland Christmas song. Allen and his sister Molly worked up four of them and then threw a big Christmas party to which they invited their musician friends. They played the four original tunes they had penned as well as a few choice covers, recorded them and delivered them on a CD to their father as a Christmas gift. And thus, the Ohio City Singers were born. The band subsequently released a handful of albums and delivered holiday cheer each year by playing at area clubs and bars. Today’s family-friendly gig represents its debut at Music Box Supper Club. (Niesel)

In the Columbus suburb of Powell is Zoombezi Bay, a water park run by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This may be the best water park in the state with the first waterslide in the country to incorporate light and audio effects and Baboon Lagoon, a multi-level play structure with a 1,000 gallon bucket dump. Immigrant Son Brewing

If you land in the camp of critics who believe, without much empirical evidence, that Cleveland has too many breweries, know this: Immigrant Son is not your typical brewery (nor is it in Cleveland). Equal attention has been paid to the four main elements of the operation – beer, food, service and setting – so that even if you don’t happen to fancy a frosty pint of crisp, clean, straw-colored Kölsch, you needn’t sit there and squawk.
