The courtroom drama Court follows the trial of an Indian folk singer accused of encouraging a nearby sewer work to commit suicide after the worker listened to one of his songs. As the trial progresses, the personal lives of the lawyer and judge begin to unravel and are observed outside the court. The film puts the Indian legal system under a microscope and it also examines the class system, education, and power in India. The film serves as the directorial debut for Indian filmmaker, Chaitanya Tamhane and also features many newcomers in the cast. The film premiered at the 71st Venice International Film Festival in 2014 where it won the Best Film in the Horizons category and its director also won the Lion of The Future award for best debut film. It screens at 6:45 p.m. today and again at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Tickets are $9. (Manno)
